What you can do Gordon is continue as you are and don't buy a telly or the adverts will do all the explaining for you, in particular the Littlewoods advert.

I watched with dismay the advert on TV where the children are performing a Christmas play. The play explains exactly to children where hard pressed, hard up parents pay from one year to the next to give children what they think they want. Watch this and any magical mystical time parents might want their children to experience are gone in seconds.

I agree with you Christmas is about the love of a family, good food and fun

Ray, I disagree. Santa's time is up, we need a new figurehead for christmas, I suggest Ronald McDonald or Steve Jobs or what about Colonel Harland Sanders? - atleast he resembles your Santa.

Hi Gordon, thanks for your thoughts. I agree it is pretty sick the way the commercial world has increasingly taken over the meaning of Christmas, while the spritiual aspects have been I think pushed to the background. But then and again, people have been thinking that for a long time. I think it might be an idea to see Christmas through a child's eyes, Santa is actually a great myth, it was great when I was a kid, and not such a shock when one day you are informed that Santa does not exist. You kind of half figure that out when you see a number of shopping centres with plump jolly men dressed in Santa Claus Outfits! But the suprise of Christmas day morning, the anticipation, the being together, all pays off in the end. Wishing you a Merry Christmas!
